A Happy Birthday (Belated)

Well I intended to write this post yesterday but my cousin Josh is staying with me right now and I didn't really get a chance so I'll just take it on right now. It didn't really even dawn on me until yesterday but 18 years ago yesterday (July 14, 1987) was my spiritual birthday. That's right, 18 years ago I was baptized into Christ at Burnt Cabin Christian Camp on Lake Tenkiller. It's really kind of hard to imagine that it's been that long ago but I can honestly say it's the best decision of my life! Now I wish I could say that I've lived up to the high standards of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ but unfortunately I've done more than my share of failing. Thankfully, though God has been good to me and I am still here making it day by day! Hopefully I'll have another 18 years ahead of me!

Happy late Birthday, Matt! I think it's neat to remember our spiritual birthdays. It makes more sense to me for Christians to celebrate the spiritual birthday instead of the physical, anyway. Why don't we?

Pondering unanswered questions,

Court: I've often wondered that as well. I don't seem to remember March 14, 1976 as much as I do July 14, 1987 and anyway, the latter is much more significant to my life. It seems to me that Christians would want to remember spiritual birthdays. Perhaps it's just our conforming to our cultures or maybe we don't the releveance. I don't know. What do you think?

Lezli: Thanks! I appreciate the well wishes. You don't have to rub in my age factor though. Someday I'll return the favor!

Matt, I think it's definitely conforming to our culture. I mean, think about it: Why should anyone congratulate me on my being physically born? I didn't have a thing to do with it! If anything, everyone should be congratulating my mother, who went through 22 hours of labor to get me here. She's the one who should be honored on February 26th, not me.

It would make more sense to celebrate my spiritual birthday of January 27th (1991). At least I had something to do with that one, since I chose it. But even in that case, it would make more sense to praise God on as a celebration. After all, he went through nearly 14 years of labor to get me to that point. And is still laboring over me today! ;o)

I'm sorry, you left it wide open...you know I can't pass up an opportunity to laugh at your age...no, it's really not that big of a difference!
